In 2010, I’ve done my first internship at Larch Rose, based in Brighton, in England. It is a studio specialized in the creation of trends and dedicated to the production of fashion prototypes.

I had to take care of the textile manipulations: sewing, embroidery, “faggoting”, pleated, smock …

Professional project, 2010

Their main activity is the manipulation and embellishment of fabrics, with respect of garment form and shape. Their work re-invent traditional techniques including embroidery, draping, pleating, cutwork, and faggoting for a modern market.

I did a lot of things over there, I had to assist the fashion designers. Most of the time, they asked me to do something very specific like embroidery, pleating, ironing or sewing a fabric. I manipulated a lot of material and it was very rewarding for my studies.
I’m really happy to have done my internship at Larch Rose. As it was a small company, human relationship was easier and I’ve learnt so many technical manipulating. However the manipulating was sometimes annoying because the designers asked me quite often a big quantity of the same sample. But despite these long times doing the same thing, I was very proud to make an essential part of the garment and also to feel part of a team. It was challenging for me to stay about five months in England. I’ve really improved my level in English and created great relationship with my colleagues. I’ve also discovered a different way of life.
In fact, I participated in all the dresses in preparing the piece of fabrics. For example : I had to cut about fifty flowers in lace, then to sew each flower to create a volume and at last I had to sew some beads on each flower to signify the stamen. The fashion designer created the dress and put on it my flowers on the scoop neck.

During these four months, I’ve learnt to become very patient and meticulous because many activities were specific and required a lot of time to be completed.
At last, but not least, I found that even in the artistic area, the repetition in your work is real so you have to be passionate of what you do!
